The NYT has a good article today on the Wal-Mart contract negotiations going on in Quebec. More talk of closing the store, which would not surprise me at all. In fact, I’m a little surprised at all the public dancing around about it. Although I don’t advocate shutting down a store to avoid bargaining with a union, if that is the strategy they should stop talking and just do it. I’d rather see Wal-Mart keep the facility open and see what happens in negotiations. Heck, Wal-Mart is one of the best negotiators in the world (and perhaps all the talk of closing the store is just posturing – I wouldn’t count on it, though) – it would be interesting to see what kind of a contract they get.
