The AFL-CIO blog recently released a story about what they claim is the first completely online union organizing effort. Workers from Truthout.org (an online news service) engaged in a “virtual card check” by meeting with each other completely online and sending in PDF union cards to verify signatures. No word yet on how negotiations on the virtual contract or handling virtual grievances is going, but I for one don’t think this is that big a deal.
