Union to Company: You Should be Thrown In Jail!

This is an amusing unfair labor practice. Apparently a roofing company in California isn’t cooperating with the roofers union during contract negotiations. The union alleges that the employer is refusing to provide information that the union needs to conduct bargaining. That’s not the good part. The union’s attorney is obviously quite upset with the situation. There are pretty common remedies in cases like this. You know, things like requiring the employer to comply with the union’s requests or – more commonly in my experience anyway – telling the union that it is not entitled to the information it requests. But that’s not good enough for this advocate. He says, “Contempt is sought. The employer needs to be thrown in jail.” Funny, I missed that part of the statute… You can take a look at the whole charge here.
