Union Political Donations Dive

by | Jul 11, 2011 | Uncategorized

It seems union officials may be following through on their recent threats to cut back political donations  to Democrats.  Open Secrets is reporting  that union PAC donations are down 40% this year from the two previous election cycles. Union PACs have contributed $4.75 million to federal candidates this year through the end of March, down from $8.44 million in 2009 and $6.77 million in 2007 through the same period. The International Association of Firefighters announced in April they would pull all money from federal races in part because “too few Democrats are standing up and fighting for us”.  And a spokesperson for the Operating Engineers told Open Secrets that the union is “fed up with how Congress is behaving this year.”
