The Detroit News reports that union electricians in Ann Arbor are calling for a boycott of a Kroger store that isn’t even built yet. It seems that the general contractor had the audacity to hire electricians (gasp, some are non-union) from Lansing and Detroit. They claim this low-paid, “out of town” labor is depressing wages for Ann Arbor electricians. This is ridiculous – it’s not like Lansing is some third world country, and these guys are making, based on the article, over $20 an hour. I think someone needs to start picketing the IBEW hall for depressing wages even further – I bet the Ann Arbor electricians aren’t making $20 an hour walking a picket line.
