Senator: Board Torturing Boeing with Legal Costs

by | May 13, 2011 | News

According to Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL) the NLRB is trying to “torture” Boeing with legal costs and threatening to “whack” companies that attempt to leave union controlled states like Illinois.  The Senator made his comments during a Health, Education, Labor & Pensions Committee hearing yesterday.
Boeing General Counsel J. Michael Luttig spoke at the hearing and characterized as “preposterous on its face” the Board Counsel’s contention that Boeing spent a billion dollars building in South Carolina only to retaliate against its unionized workforce in Washington State.
Committee Democrats focused all their attention on the GOP’s reaction to the complaint. “What borders almost on unethical activity is for people in the political branch of the Congress to begin to interfere in a judicial process and to color that judicial process and to try to make it a political matter,” Chairman Tom Harkin, of Iowa, said.
Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., declared himself “troubled by the attack on the NLRB process.”
