During floor debate on the SBIR/STTR Reauthorization Act (S. 483), Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN) announced that he, Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC) and Senator Lindsay Graham (R-TN) would be introducing a bill entitled the “National Right to Work Protection Act.” The bill comes in large part as a response in outrage over the recent NLRB complaint filed against Boeing that critics see as nothing but an assault on Right to Work states. The Protection Act would prevent the federal government from punishing RtW states through federal contracts or other actions. “A few weeks ago, a delegation from California went to Texas to try to figure out why hundreds of businesses are moving from California, taking tax revenue and jobs with them to Texas and other States,” DeMint said. “They didn’t need to make the trip. It was pretty obvious that the business environment that has been created in California by the unions and the politicians has made it very difficult for world-class companies.”
