Laborer’s local 79 in Manhattan, which went through a clean-up about 10 years ago to rid it of mob influence, is now in the middle of another far-reaching corruption scandal (5 officers have resigned and at least 2 will face criminal embezzlement charges). >As one union member (who was defeated last year in a run for union office) stated: “I am a union guy and unions are good for people. But we shoot ourselves in the foot all the time.”
