Cali Braces for Grocery Strike

by | Jun 8, 2011 | News

Unionists are asking Californians respect picket lines if the UFCW takes 10,000 Albertsons, Ralphs and Vons workers out on strike.  A strike vote was taken in April and talks are stalled over contributions to healthcare. This is the same issue that prompted the 141-day strike in 2003-04 which ended when the union could no longer pay out $100 a week in strike pay and settled for what the grocers had offered before the strike. You are asked to not shop Albertsons, Vons or Ralphs (strike), Target, Walmart or other “Big Box” retailer (no card check, too successful), Whole Foods (doesn’t support Obamacare, workers too happy), Fresh & Easy (not union..yet) and all other grocers not controlled by unions.
